With mild temperatures, clear air and a quiet, peaceful atmosphere, this month is ideal for long hikes in Mallorca’s unique nature. In contrast to the hot summer, the climate is pleasantly cool, making longer hikes possible without the heat becoming a burden. What’s more, the hiking trails are hardly frequented in January, so you can enjoy nature in peace and quiet.

The Serra de Tramuntana: exploring a UNESCO World Heritage Site

The Tramuntana mountains in the west of Mallorca are an absolute highlight for hikers and have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to their special natural and cultural landscape. The Serra de Tramuntana offers a variety of hiking trails with different levels of difficulty – from easy walks to more challenging mountain tours. A popular route in January is the hike from Deià to Sóller. This route leads through rustic olive groves, past centuries-old stone houses and offers spectacular views of the Mediterranean. The historic town of Valldemossa is also a great starting point for hikes: Here, paths lead through the hilly landscape and past the traditional dry stone walls that characterize the image of the Tramuntana.

The Mallorca almond blossom: a special natural phenomenon

A special experience in January is the beginning of the almond blossom. From the middle of the month, the blossoming almond trees transform the land into a sea of pale pink and white flowers – a magical sight that hikers on Mallorca should not miss. The regions around Sóller, Llucmajor and Santa Maria del Camí in particular are known for their almond groves and offer a beautiful backdrop for a hike.

Tips for hiking in Mallorca in January

Dress in layers: Even if the temperatures are pleasant, it can get chilly in the mornings and at higher altitudes. Several thin layers and a weatherproof jacket are therefore ideal.

Sun protection: Mallorca’s winter sun can be strong. So don’t forget sun cream, a hat and sunglasses.

Good footwear: Many paths on Mallorca lead over stony paths and dry stone walls. Sturdy hiking boots are therefore a must to ensure a secure footing.

Provisions and water: In January, many restaurants and stores along the hiking routes are closed. So make sure you have enough water and snacks.

Mallorca is a paradise for hiking enthusiasts, and January offers the perfect opportunity to explore the island away from the summer hustle and bustle.
